The University of Southern Maine seeks applicants for the full-time faculty position with the Department of Technology, focusing on Cybersecurity. This role requires teaching four courses per semester (Fall/Spring), advising students, conducting outreach to industry and community college partners, and serving the community, university, and students.
Designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD), the Department of Technology (DOT) is in the John Mitchell Center on the University of Southern Maine’s (USM) Gorham campus. The department provides degree programs in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Technology Management. The DOT mission is to prepare students for careers as leaders in business and industry, information technology, and network security through specialized and professional courses. The Michael E. Dubyak Center for Digital Science & Innovation, along with the newly renovated CARES Center in Gorham, provide modern classroom and laboratory space. These innovative experiential learning centers foster creativity, collaboration, and technological advancements. These facilities afford opportunities for partnering with businesses and higher education institutions in the Greater Portland Maine area and beyond. The department prides itself on utilizing state-of-the-art technical resources for teaching, research, and education.
The accepted candidate will teach courses dependent on their background. Some potential first courses include introductory information security, penetration testing, project management, digital forensics, cyber-law, system security, and security operations. DOT will also assign the new faculty member opportunities for student mentoring, internships, capstone experiences, and student portfolio reviews. USM requires faculty to teach both face-to-face and online courses. Additional responsibilities include student academic advising, engaging in university, department and community committees and other kinds of service.
The targeted starting date for this position will begin in Fall 2024 on our Gorham Campus and will pay annual salary of $76,500. This is an on campus, in-person teaching position.
