The University of Southern Maine is excited to announce a new job opening for the position of Coordinator of the American Sign Language (ASL)/English Interpreting Concentration of the Linguistics Major. We are seeking a talented individual who is passionate about their role in overseeing a program that supports the education of future ASL/English interpreters, which is centered on ASL and Deaf culture, facilitating effective communication between American Sign Language (ASL) speakers and English speakers.

Linguistics at USM provides an overview of the structure, nature, and development of human language. Linguistics students can major in general linguistics or in a number of concentrations. We also offer several minors.
The Coordinator of the ASL/English Interpreting Concentration is responsible for managing the interpreter training program - supervising and coordinating part-time interpreting instructors and interpreting courses, teaching two interpreting courses per semester, and maintaining compliance with the Collegiate Commission on Interpreter Education (CCIE). Dedicated administrative support will be provided in this process to the Coordinator. The Coordinator will work directly with the Coordinator of the ASL Program.
Excellent listening and communication skills, the ability to work comfortably with a diverse range of individuals within the academic setting and ability to work independently and collaborate with peers is essential.
The Coordinator will maintain the vision of the program, which includes emphasis on the peer-professional training of both Deaf and hearing interpreters, as well as commitment to a model-based curriculum.
This is a full-time, 9-month position with pay distributed across 12 months with an annual salary of $50,000 commensurate with experience.
