The Department of Counselor Education at the University of Southern Maine seeks part-time faculty to teach its Group Counseling Practicum (HCE 627) for our Summer 2022 Session that begins on July 5, 2022.  This is an in-person teaching position. The course meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:30 on the Gorham campus from July 5th through August 19th. 

Group Counseling Practicum (HCE 627) focuses on the development of concepts, attitudes, and skills necessary to lead counseling groups effectively in a variety of settings. Integration of group dynamics with counseling theory and group techniques is emphasized. Additionally, behavior of leader and participants is analyzed to promote a deeper understanding of group roles and functions.

The Department of Counselor Education is comprised of active and engaged faculty and students across three concentrations: Clinical Mental Health, Clinical Rehabilitation, and School Counseling.

The Counselor Education department philosophy is to prepare our graduates to act as facilitators of change in the lives of individuals at all developmental levels. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

• Master’s degree or doctoral degree in Counselor Education or related field.
• Experience with group counseling theory and techniques.
• Experience facilitating groups in clinical settings.
