Join a team of passionate instructors working with our first-year student population as they transition to their first semester here at USM. COR 101 classes are 1-credit experiential learning classes designed to help students develop a sense of belonging at USM, cultivate and exercise skills that allow them to be engaged in their own learning, identify, and access university resources, and take ownership of their personal and academic success. COR 101 is required of first-semester residential students and is offered to first-semester commuter students as well. Instructors are provided with a master syllabus template with learning outcomes, as well as optional lesson plans if desired. COR classes are designed so that all assignments and class work take place either during or in-place of scheduled class time. Classes typically involve a variety of outings or activities that provide students with hands on opportunities to engage with their peers, reflect on their experiences, and explore what USM and the surrounding communities have to offer. Course funds are provided to support these activities and outings.
The work schedule for the Fall 2022 semester is 1-2 sections (staff) or 1-6 sections (faculty), depending on interest and availability. COR 101 is a one credit course that meets once a week for 11 weeks during the fall semester. Each class meeting is 75 minutes.
Part-time faculty members or full-time salaried staff are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.
